2024 Ford Maverick EV

The all-new 2024 Ford Maverick Lightning will reportedly arrive next year after the manufacturer trademarked its name recently. In case you missed it, last year, Ford CEO Jim Farley said that the electric Maverick would be part of Ford’s lineup but didn’t say when it would be coming out in the USA.

Thanks to some unofficial renderings, the smallest fully electric pickup will look attractive, featuring many upgrades over the outgoing hybrid variant. The Ford Maverick EV is expected to share its unibody platform with the Bronco Sport and Escape. Thanks to that, it can handle either one or two electric motors. Presumably, it could use the same system as we saw in the F-150 Lightning.

2024 Ford Maverick Lightning Design

Thanks to a new rendering of the 2024 Ford Maverick Lightning, we have an idea of what the final product will look like. First of all, the exterior of the electric version will likely have the same basic shape as the regular Maverick. Of course, some extra details will separate it from the regular one, like special wheels, a closed-off grille, and a unique lighting signature. Overall, the design is similar to the one we saw on the F-150 Lightning model.

We’re also expecting the Lightning truck to have the same 121.1-inch wheelbase. The current Maverick measures 199.7 inches in length, 83.5 inches in width, and 68.7 inches in height.

More Modern Interior Compared to the Hybrid Model

The new 2024 Ford Maverick Lightning’s interior will definitely be more modern compared to the hybrid variant. However, unlike the hybrid variant, the EV will push the technology envelope a bit further. We’re expecting the new truck to include a highly functional design, a user-friendly touchscreen interface, and loads of thoughtful storage spaces.

It may also get more comfy seats with leather or faux leather and plenty of standard equipment. The Ford Co-Pilot360 suite of safety is standard as well, and it includes adaptive cruise control, evasive steering assist, lane centering, and rear parking sensors.

2024 Ford Maverick Lightning Motor Specs, Battery Charging Time, and Range

Unlike the Ford F-150 Lightning, which uses two electric motors, the Maverick Lightning will likely come with a single electric motor. For comparison only, the base Mustang Mach-E is also a model that has only one electric motor, and it makes 266 hp. We’re expecting that the truck version produces at least 300 horses with a single motor.

Anyway, there are also rumors about two electric motors that should appear later, resulting in AWD as standard. Like the Mustang Mach-E and F-150 Lightning, we expect the new Maverick to provide the same 300 miles on a full charge. A 150 kW charging speed should charge this truck in about 45 minutes.

What’s the Price of the 2024 Maverick Lightning?

The new 2024 Ford Maverick Lightning will definitely cost more than its hybrid predecessor. If we look at the price of the F-150 Lightning, which is about $9,000 pricier than the regular F-150, we presume the Ford Maverick Lightning could pass the $30k mark.

At the moment, there is no exact information regarding the release date of the new truck, but many are expecting it to happen sometime next year.

An Electric Ford Maverick Lightning Could—and Probably Should—Happen

This is the Maverick Lightning we think could hit the streets in the near future.

It seems, barring some unlikely series of events, that an electric Maverick will happen. It also seems that, judging by the little truck's front end styling, it may be a natural fit for the standard smooth-grille EV look, as seen on the F-150 Lightning, Mustang Mach-E, and others. Filling in the upper portion—whether, as we imagine, smoothly in base models (as seen above) or with a stylish texture in higher trims (as seen below)—doesn't jar the eye thanks to the stylish bar linking the headlights and a bit of texture. And the smaller proportions of the Maverick's front end help; by comparison, the F-150 Lightning's filled-in grille looks overly wide between its small, wide-set headlights.

The wheels seen here are pulled straight from the F-150 Lightning's selection; they may not be representative of a design a Maverick EV would actually wear, but they follow the contemporary EV wheel styling tropes. Other changes are mostly minor: a charging door on the front fender, the bedside "LIGHTNING" badge, a partially-filled-in lower air intake.

Around back, however, the F-150 Lightning's taillight connection strip looks right at home adapted to the Maverick's rear proportions. Beyond that, the Maverick doesn't need much to visually communicate that it'd be right at home as an EV—something that would have been baked in, stylistically, right from the start of development.

The F-150 Lightning will, if all goes to plan, hit dealers in May 2022. We haven't had an official confirmation of an electric Maverick yet, although Ford seems to be spelling out that it's coming, so assume that a Ford Maverick Lightning would be announced in the next few months, with production trailing by roughly the same timeframe as its larger stablemate.
