How to change brush opacity in medibang

After going over most of how to use Medibang Paint Pro, let's move on to the most important part of all digital drawing software: brushes. Let's look at how the brush tool in Medibang works.

I. How to use Brush in Medibang Paint Pro

Click on the brush icon in the toolbar on the left when you're done making a file. Your mouse pointer will instantly change into a small black triangle, and it may also be surrounded by a small black circle.  This black circle represents the size of the brush you're using to draw. You can modify the brush size in the Brush Control box, which I'll go over in more detail later.

If you don't have a black circle around the hover, go to the menu View -> Brush Size.

To change the color shown on the brush, you need to change the color in the color box next to it. In another post, I'll talk more about this color box.

You can use the Create Straight Lines button in Keyboard Support to draw a straight line. You can also hold down Shift or use the ruler tool in Medibang Paint Pro. There will be an article about the Snap tool in the future.

I. Brush windows in Medibang Paint Pro:

When you use Medibang Brush, you will see two windows: Brush Control and Brush Window.

1. Brush Window:

Your collection of brushes is kept here. At first, Medibang Paint Pro will give you some simple brushes to use. If you think the default brushes are insufficient, you can add more brushes to your collection on Medibang's cloud system, either for free or at a cost.

a. You can add more brushes to the collection by clicking on those buttons. You can add two types of brushes to Medibang: Bitmap and Script. I'll tell you more about each one below.

b. Make a brush group to make things easier to handle. As an example, I usually put the paintbrush in one group and the comic brush in another.

c. Make a copy of the brush. Most of the time, this is used to make a new brush by copying the settings of an existing brush and changing a few things.

d. Remove any unused brushes.

e. Click on this gear to open up each brush's settings.

2. Brush Control:

a. Drag this bar or give a number to the box to change your brush size.

b. Drag this bar to adjust your brush opacity.

c. For some brushes, you can easily modify their settings here (Example: change the Symmetry Rotation Brush). However, you need to click the gear of each brush for full adjustment.

II. How to have more Brushes in Medibang Paint Pro.

1. Download Brush from Medibang Cloud

Choose the Cloud button in the Medibang Brush window. As soon as you choose, a window called Cloud Material will pop up.

In the past, all brushes were freely downloadable. But now the locked brushes can't be downloaded anymore.  If you still want to use it, you'll have to pay for Premium. In other words, these are Medibang Paint Pro's paid brushes. To limit Medibang to only displaying free brushes that you are allowed to download, click the Usable box in the Cloud Material window’s corner.

Simply double-click the brush you want to download to your computer after choosing it. Close this Cloud Material window after that (you can press the X in the top right corner or press the close button). Your Brush window will now display the downloaded brushes. If you can't find it, scroll to the bottom.

2. Download Brush from the internet

You can also download brushes made by other people in Medibang to add to your own collection. After you've downloaded the brush you want, you'll apply it using the respective buttons: Bitmap or Script.

Most of the brushes on the internet are Bitmap brushes. Bitmap brushes operate by simply placing an image in each of your brush dots. However, the Script brush is written code, and you will attach this text to Medibang to handle the brush's output. Because Script is hard and you need to know how to code to use it, there aren't that many Script brushes out there.

And that's all you need to know to get started with the brush. In my next post, I'll show you step-by-step how to create a custom brush in Medibang Paint Pro.
