What Does a Content Reviewer Do?

Content reviewers review, edit, and proofread online or printed content. Before a company can publish content, such as ads, email templates, written text, and other online information, a content reviewer is in charge of ensuring that the material is accurate, high-quality, free of errors, and appropriate for the intended audience. You work closely with content writers and editors, and your review may be the final step before the text is published. As a content reviewer, you may work in the office setting or remotely, and may be on the staff or work freelance on a short- or long-term contract basis.

How to Become a Content Reviewer

To become a content reviewer, you must have excellent grammar and writing skills. For printed texts, employers may expect you to be proficient in layout and design programs such as Adobe Indesign, while positions for online content may require knowledge of Google AdWords or common web programming languages and frameworks, such as HTML/CSS and JavaScript. Many have an associate or bachelor's degree in a relevant field, such as English or computer science. Some roles are specialized and have specific qualifications; for example, you may need an education background for curriculum text or fluency in a second language for material that has been translated.
