Shift key turns on caps lock using Microsoft Remote Desktop
0
Hi all,

I am following up on a question that has been locked since the original poster never followed up on comments, and the problem was left unsolved. But I am having the same problem.

When I use my Chromebook to connect to my work computer via Microsoft Remote Access, the right shift key enables cap locks. It seems to only be the right shift key, and only when I connect via MS Remote Access [I do not have this problem using Chrome Remote Desktop].

So far the only step I have taken in response was to enable the shift key to also turn off cap locks on the remote desktop, but it is still a bit awkward to type inserting the extra shift after starting a sentence or typing an acronym.

Any thoughts on how to fix? Currently I am retraining my fingers to predominantly use the left shift - which is a hard habit to break!

Support for that app is provided by Microsoft. You should contact them with your question.

Same here.

it looks like a perennial problem with the Remote DT app from MS. I was using a Mac Mini for 3 months to access work PC from home. Had the same issue from time to time but never understood what was happening.

Now on a VAIO converted to Chrome OS [Project Brunch] and was perplexed when my password with caps and small letters was getting rejected by remote PC.

i have read even some Windows users saying the same thing to MS on their forums, some complaints even as old as 2015.

Now i know why and avoiding right Shift key. MS seems to be sleeping on this.

if we got a solution to disable the right shift key like the choice for other keys in the Settings of Chrome OS that would be useful.

Is there any reason not to use the Chromebook Remote Desktop, as that seems to work for you?
Can you disable the caps lock on the Microsoft machine? Personally I hardly ever use it [and tend to hit it by mistake] and love the fat a CB doesn't have it!

I believe Chrome RD requires two way installation. I work for a government entity and such things are forbidden. The system is like a sealed system. We cannot touch it. So i have to use MS RD App on my laptop at home. We never expected that we'd be working for months from home so many of us are given a desktop PC.

Also when the Win PC is restarted the default is to switch off Caps Lock i think. That doesn't help in this case.

Thanks all for the thoughts and sharing that you are experiencing similar problems - potentially on different platforms.

I have been predominantly using Chrome RD and that seems to be working well. In fact I might like the interface more as I don't keep accidentally quitting the program every time I try to minimize a window on the remote machine, like I do with MS RD.

I was hoping to get MS RD up and running as that is what our IT group will support. They were kind enough to install Chrome RD on my work machine, but made it clear they would not be providing any support. In the end, Chrome RD the tool I'm not having any issues with, so I'll be using it in the short term.

I have not tried completely disabling caps lock on the remote machine, and if for some reason Chrome RD stops working for me, I may have to do that.
