For the 2023 model year, the Kia Sorento improves on its impressive value-for-money package. The mid-size SUV now comes with more standard safety tech and added features. In addition, it continues with its diverse engine line-up while keeping the MSRP below the $45,000 mark for the entire range. The changes for the new model year apply to Sorento Hybrid as well. The 2023 Kia Sorento Gets More Standard Safety Tech

The Sorento already had a pretty impressive standard safety package. Features such as Forward Collision-Avoidance Assist with Pedestrian Detection, Lane Following Assist, Lane Keeping Assist, and Driver Attention Warning were available across its model range. The 2023 model year adds Blind-Sport Collision Avoidance, Rear-Cross Traffic Collision Avoidance, and Safe Exit Assist to this list.

Forward Collision-Avoidance Assist (With cyclist and junction turning detection), Highway Driving Assist, Navigation-Based Smart Cruise Control, and several other safety and driver assistance tech are available on higher grades of the Sorento.

The 2023 Sorento Adds New Features Across Its Line-Up

You can easily spend hours inside the Sorento. The interior of this mid-size SUV comes with good build quality, plenty of features, and excellent materials. The base LX trim has an 8-inch touchscreen infotainment system that gets Android Auto and Apple CarPlay connectivity. It also has steering-mounted audio controls and a decent six-speaker audio system.

The 2023 Sorento gets more features added to its line-up. The new features are available starting from the S grade, which now comes with a wireless smartphone charger. In addition, the EX gets an 8-way power adjustment for the front passenger seat and a frame-less rear view mirror. Finally, the SX will come with a 12.3-inch touchscreen panel, power-folding exterior mirrors, and rain-sensing wipers.

The SX-Prestige, the range-topping grade of the 2023 Sorento, does not get any new features. However, it will now come as standard with all-wheel drive, which will add gloss black accents to the SUV's exterior and a different design for the bumpers. Extra features added to the Sorento for the 2023 model year include a 115-volt on-board inverter that can charge small household items. In addition, the list consists of Kia's Homelink connectivity and retractable door shades for the rear windows.

Kia continues to offer the X-Line package with the Sorento for 2023. This off-road kit will be available on all trims except the base LX. No changes are made to this package as it still adds rugged-looking exterior details, bigger 20-inch wheels, and a roof rack.

The Sorento Continues With Its Diverse Engine Line-up

With the 2023 model year, the Sorento continues with its existing powertrain line-up. This includes a 2.5-liter engine which is available in two states of tune. Lower models get a naturally aspirated version of this four-cylinder engine generating 191 horsepower and 181 lb-ft of torque. It gets an 8-speed automatic transmission and front-wheel drive as standard. In addition, there is an option to upgrade to Kia's torque vectoring all-wheel drive system that comes with a center locking differential.

Higher grades of the 2023 Sorento will get the turbocharged version of this 2.5-liter engine which produces 281 horsepower and 311 lb-ft of torque. It has an 8-speed dual-clutch transmission and is available in front and all-wheel drive configurations. Get the towing package with the 2.5-liter turbo, and the Sorento will tow up to 3500 pounds for you. The base 2.5-liter non-turbo can still tow up to 2000 pounds.

The hybrid models of the Sorento get a 1.6-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine that's paired with a single electric motor. The combined power output of this setup is 227 horsepower with 250 lb-ft of torque. Transmission duties are taken care of by an 8-speed automatic, and all-wheel drive is on offer.

The 2023 Sorento Still Prides With Impressive Fuel Economy

The Kia Sorento continues to offer decent fuel-economy figures. EPA rates the non-turbo 2.5-liter for 24 MPG in the city, 29 MPG on the highway, and 26 MPG combined. These figures drop to 23 MPG in the city, 25 MPG on the highway, and 24 MPG combined for the all-wheel driver version.

The turbocharged version of the 2.5-liter four-cylinder is rated to offer 22 MPG in the city, 29 MPG on the highway, and 25 MPG combined in its front-wheel drive configuration. However, in the all-wheel drive guise, these figures drop to 21 MPG in the city, 28 MPG on the highway, and 24 MPG combined.

The Sorento's line-up does not breach the $45,000 mark despite all the upgrades for 2023. Prices for the base LX starting at $29,990 for the front-wheel drive configuration, while all-wheel drive LX will cost you $31,790. The range-topper SX-Prestige AWD has a sticker price of $43,390. Adding the X-Line package to this trim will take its MSRP to $43,590.
