Microsoft 365 Apps activation error: “We’ve run into a problem with your Office 365 subscription”

When activating Microsoft 365 apps, you might encounter the following error:

We've run into a problem with your Office 365 subscription and we need your help to fix it.

Try the following troubleshooting methods to solve the problem.

Notes:

  • If your Microsoft 365 license didn't come from your work, school, or other organization, see Office error "Account Notice: We've run into a problem with your Microsoft 365 subscription"
  • Some of these troubleshooting methods can only be performed by a Microsoft 365 admin. If you aren’t an admin, see How do I find my Microsoft 365 admin?
Run as administrator
  1. Close all Microsoft 365 Apps.
  2. From Start, right-click on a Microsoft 365 App, and select Run as administrator.
  3. If you’re prompted, activate Microsoft 365 Apps.
  4. If you don’t see a message that Microsoft 365 Apps was activated, try the next troubleshooting method.

Go to https://portal.office.com/account to check which Office version and edition you have available.

If no Office version is shown, you don’t have an Office license assigned to the account you are signed in with. If you are signed in with your Work or School account, and don’t have a license assigned, contact your Microsoft 365 Administrator to get a license assigned. How do I find my Microsoft 365 admin?

If you have Microsoft 365 for Business Basic, you won’t have any Office applications to install. You can use Office Online apps at https://office.com.

Make sure that the version listed (32-bit or 64-bit) matches your version of Windows. To check what version of Windows you have installed, go to Start > Settings (gear icon) > System > About, and check the System type.

Uninstall Office apps and then reinstallReset Microsoft 365 activation state

Run the Microsoft Support and Recovery Assistant (SaRA) to reset the Microsoft 365 activation state.

Turn on Recurring billing and make sure your subscription is active
  1. In the Microsoft 365 Admin Center, select Billing > Your products.
  2. Select the subscription. Check if the subscription is active. If it isn’t, select Reactivate subscription. If it isn’t, select Reactivate subscription.
  3. Under Subscription and payment settings, select Edit recurring billing.
  4. Select On or On, but renew once.
Reset your passwordMake sure user licenses are assigned
  1. In the Microsoft 365 Admin Center, go to the Users > Active users page.
  2. Select the row of the user that you want to assign a license to.
  3. In the right pane, select Licenses and Apps.
  4. Expand the Licenses section, select the boxes for the licenses that you want to assign, then select Save changes.
  5. If the license is already assigned, uncheck it, select Save changes, then check it again and select Save changes again.

"Can't Verify Subscription" or "No Subscription Found" error messages in Office Mobile

Symptoms

When you use Office Mobile for iPhone, you receive one of the following error messages:

Can't Verify Subscription

Please sign in to reactivate this app.

No Subscription Found

We couldn't find a subscription connected to your account.

Cause

This issue occurs because a previously activated version of Office Mobile exists on the device, possibly from another subscription. Therefore, the new Office Professional Plus license cannot be applied.

Solution

To resolve this issue, follow these steps:

  1. Verify that you have a license assigned to youin the Microsoft 365 portal. To do this, follow these steps:

    Note

    If you cannot sign in or do not see the Settings button, then you may not have administrative permissions or may not have a license assigned to you.

    1. Sign in to the Microsoft 365 portal.

    2. In the left pane, select Subscriptions.

    3. In the list of subscriptions and licenses, scroll down to the Office 365 section, and then look for The latest desktop version of Office. If you see this entry in the list, you have an Office subscription that's assigned correctly.

      Note

      If you don't see a vertical scroll bar, hover the pointer over the list, press and hold the left mouse button, and then scroll.

    4. If an entry for The latest desktop version of Office does not appear in the list, contact your administrator or go to the following website:

      • Assign or remove licenses, or view a list of unlicensed users
  2. Verify the status of the service health for the Office Subscription service.

Why does Office 365 keep asking me to activate my subscription?

This can happen if you don't uninstall the pre-installed version of Office on your new PC before installing a volume license version of Office. To stop the prompts for activation, make sure your Office uses volume licensing and then update the registry.

Do you have to buy subscription for Microsoft?
