What is Apple Trade In?

open What is Apple Trade In? close What is Apple Trade In?

It’s our trade‑in and recycling program that’s good for you and the planet. If your trade‑in device is eligible for credit, you can offset the purchase price of a new one. If it’s not eligible for credit, you can recycle it for free.

How does it work?

open How does it work? close How does it work?

Whether you’re making a purchase or not, we’ve made it easy to trade in an eligible device either in store or online. Just answer a few questions regarding the brand, model and condition of your device. We’ll provide an estimated trade‑in value or a simple way to recycle it.

If you accept the trade‑in estimate in store, we’ll give you instant credit towards a purchase or a gift card you can use at any time.

If you accept the trade‑in estimate online when you purchase a new Mac, iPhone, iPad or Apple Watch, we’ll arrange for you to send your current device to our trade‑in partner. Once they receive it, they’ll inspect it and verify its condition. If everything checks out, your original purchase method will be credited and you will receive any remaining balance on an Apple Gift Card via email.

If you choose to trade in your current device online for a gift card, we’ll also arrange for you to send it to our trade‑in partner. When everything checks out, you will receive an Apple Gift Card via email.

Regardless of how you choose to trade in, if the condition of your device doesn’t match what you described, a new estimated trade‑in value will be provided. You’ll have the option to either accept this revised quote or reject it. If you reject it, your device will be returned to you at no charge.

Should I choose credit towards a purchase or an Apple Gift Card?

open Should I choose credit towards a purchase or an Apple Gift Card? close Should I choose credit towards a purchase or an Apple Gift Card?

It depends on where and when you make a purchase.

If you’re ready to buy a new product at an Apple Store, you can bring your current device with you. If it’s eligible for trade‑in, we’ll apply an instant credit at the time of purchase.

If you’re ready to buy a new Apple product online (apple.com/au or the Apple Store app), you can trade in an eligible device and get credit towards your purchase.

If you’re not ready to make a purchase, you can trade in an eligible device online for an Apple Gift Card via email that you can apply to any future Apple purchase.

And no matter how you use Apple Trade In, if your device has no trade‑in value, you can always recycle it responsibly for free.

If I buy a new device online with a trade‑in, what kind of credit will I get?

open If I buy a new device online with a trade‑in, what kind of credit will I get? close If I buy a new device online with a trade‑in, what kind of credit will I get?

It depends on what you buy and how you pay for it.

If you buy an iPhone, iPad, Mac or Apple Watch and pay in full, we’ll apply a credit to your original payment method up to the total purchase price. For any remaining amount, you’ll receive an Apple Gift Card via email.

Once our trade‑in partner receives your trade‑in device and confirms that the condition matches what you described, there’s nothing more you need to do. If it doesn’t match, your original payment method will be charged the difference in value. In that case, our trade‑in partner will work with you to confirm that you still want to move forward with the trade‑in.

How much will I get for my trade‑in?

open How much will I get for my trade‑in? close How much will I get for my trade‑in?

It depends on the device, model, manufacturer and condition. Answer a few questions accurately, and once our trade‑in partner receives the device within the specified timeframe and verifies its condition, you’ll most likely receive the full amount of the estimated refund.

Keep in mind that our trade‑in partner needs to receive your device within 14 days of the trade‑in being initiated, and the condition needs to match what you described.

If the condition of the device is different from what you described, you’ll receive a revised value. You can either accept or reject it. If you accept it, the trade‑in will continue and the value will be credited or charged to your original payment method. If you reject it, the trade‑in will be cancelled and your old device will be returned. No matter what, you’ll receive email updates about the progress of your trade‑in, so you’ll know what’s happening at every step.

Does Apple offer recycling?

open Does Apple offer recycling? close Does Apple offer recycling?

Yes. If your device has no trade‑in value, Apple Trade In lets you recycle any Apple device, and devices from Apple-owned brands, at any Apple Store and online. We’ll make sure your device is recycled responsibly or given a chance to be used again.

You can bring your batteries and old Apple products to any Apple Store and we’ll recycle them responsibly, free of charge. We accept any small product or battery without purchase of a new product or battery.

If you know your product has no value or you have many units to recycle, you can bypass the trade‑in evaluation and go directly to recycling. Select “Other devices” on this page to initiate your request for recycling. In Australia only, our recycling partner accepts all brands for recycling. Reasonable quantities are accepted under this program. For quantities of more than 1 pallet, please contact our recycling partner. Larger quantities are accepted at their discretion. Check our recycling partner’s site for details.

Can I cancel my trade‑in?

open Can I cancel my trade‑in? close Can I cancel my trade‑in?

If you haven’t dropped off or shipped your device, you can cancel your trade‑in by simply keeping your device.

If you’ve already sent your device to our trade-in partner, then the trade‑in can’t be cancelled.

If you receive a revised trade‑in value after the inspection of your device and it’s lower than your original quoted value, you can choose to reject it and your device will be returned to you at no charge. However, all packaging and device accessories (such as keyboards, mice, cables and power adapters) will not be returned once sent in, even if you cancel your trade‑in.

How do I pack my device for trade‑in?

open How do I pack my device for trade‑in? close How do I pack my device for trade‑in?

You’ll receive detailed instructions on how to prepare your device so you can complete your trade‑in.

If you’re trading in your device for credit towards a new one, you can choose to drop it off or schedule a courier pick-up. If you prefer to drop it off, we’ll email you a barcode you can take to the post office, where they’ll pack up your device and send it to our trade‑in partner. If you select courier pick-up, we’ll send you a trade‑in kit so you can pack up your own device, and a courier will collect it at the scheduled time.

If you’re trading in a device without purchasing a new one, you’ll use the courier pick-up method described above.

How do I pack my device for recycling?
