The Biossance Squalane + Glycolic Renewal Facial face mask is a brightening and resurfacing treatment – along the lines of Kate Somerville’s Exfolikate or Charlotte Tilbury’s new Super Radiance Resurfacing Facial. I’ve steared clear of these types of acid treatments recently after burning my skin with Exfolikate by leaving it on too long. However, this one is a lot gentler and easier to judge.

The Biossance Squalane + Glycolic Renewal Facial* (£37 from Cult Beauty) is supposed to be left on the skin for between 3 and 10 minutes. That’s a big spectrum, so i’d veer towards the 3-5 minute mark the first few times you use this. Just to make sure you don’t overdo it and damage your skin’s protective barrier. For me, when I covered my face in a layer of this, I didn’t feel anything until after a few minutes, when it started to tingle. This was then when I removed it. My skin was a bit red, but I layered on a ceramide, honey and aloe cream and went to bed. My skin was calm and glowing by morning. It is gentler than other similar treatments on the market, due to the addition of hydrating squalane, but it’s still an acid treatment, so tred carefully until you are used to how your skin reacts to it.

The texture of this Vegan and cruelty-free mask is like a thick, buttery cream. The exfoliating acids it contains are glycolic, lactic, malic and tartaric acids. These dissolve dead skin cells, revealing the fresh and glowing new skin underneath. They also stimulate cell turnover, leading to an even texture and more youthful-looking skin. These acids work with fine mineral spheres to non-abrasively resurface your skin. To counteract the effects of these, Biossance have added in squalane and hyaluronic acid to hydrate and moisturise the skin so it isn’t left feeling stripped.I am really impressed with this mask and i’d definitely recommend it. My skin looks so radiant and feels much smoother after using this. My skin is left feeling plump and comfortable too. I’ve been using this as a weekly treatment and it has really made a difference to the freshness and glow of my skin. It is a pricier mask, but not too expensive and the amount you get in the tube is great. Let me know if you try it!
