Will my laptop still work if it got wet?

I was watching a movie on my father's Apple laptop and during the night the air conditioner threw out some water onto the laptop, and it got wet. I turned it on in the morning but after 5 or 6 hours when my father went to turn it on it didn't come on. What can I do?

Make it completely dry (leave it for a few days) with the batery out (if possible) and the power cord didconnected. It should work after drying.

Remove what you can, sell it online, get a cheap replacement missing the parts you have and put your parts in it. That way you don't have to start from scratch.

To really help get it dry, submerge it in some rice. I've done this both with my phone and computer when I got it wet. The only thing to look out for is if any little pieces of rice get stuck in the small nooks and crannies.

If a device gets wet, you should immediately turn off power, unplug it, and take out the battery. The water can create a circuit where there should not be, causing damage to the device. The device may be at least partially broken (the motherboard may be damaged, but not the hard drive for example). You can still try what you normally would went a device gets wet. As before, disable any power, dry it off the best you can, and put it in a large bag with dry rice. Rice eagerly absorbs water and is a good "poor man's" method to get the moisture out of something. Leave it in there for at least a day. If you are comfortable, disassemble the laptop and gently dab any moisture you see on the inside. If it still doesn't work, take out your hard drive, and hook it up to a hard drive dock (or attach it inside a regular desktop computer. Copy all of the valuable contents of your hard drive over to the drive. Make sure the drive is big enough to hold the contents. You can can do a full bit image of the entire drive if you'd like. That would allow you to copy all of your data over to a new hard drive in an identical computer.

If it got wet overnight then you turned it on, turned it off a little while later, then tried to turn it on again later, I think the motherboard is fried. There is really little chance for it to turn back on again at all or without problems that will show up either immediately or eventually. Corrosion on the motherboard is almost imminent if not allowed to dry completely before trying to turn it back on or within a fair amount of time, which 24 hours is pretty much minimum if using something to help draw out moisture.

Best thing to do is to let it dry THOROUGHLY and BEFORE any attempt to turn the unit on. Also remove the battery as soon as possible.

The only advice i have to give is if the computer still doesnt work it is no good. BUT DONT THROW IT AWAY! Remove the hard drive because remember all of your information is saved on it. What you can do now is look on ebay for a computer without a hard drive( it'll be cheaper than a whole brand new computer) when you order it, insert your hard drive. If this does not work for you, call a computer technician

You can only hope that it will turn back on once it's fully dry (may take up to 24h or so) or that it's only minor damage e.g. the power unit or so.

Water damage is not covered by Apple warranty and depending on the age of the device there may be actual humidity sensors/stickers inside to detect it in addition to the visuals that may be left behind.

If the logic board got damaged the repair could cost about 70-80% of a new device.

First thing you need to do is to make it dry, and the second is bring it to mac service center, since apple has an exclusive guarantee method for its product.

Do you let it dry after it got wet? Thirsty bag http://www.ifixit.com/Tools/Thirsty-Bag/IF145-163 works on phones but I don't know if there're something like that for laptop.
