How do I fix high CPU usage and low GPU usage?
So I started getting frame drops recently (started yesterday) and I didn't know what caused it. Then I opened my task manager and saw my CPU was 100% the whole time and my GPU was on 15-17%. Anyone else with this problem and maybe a potential fix? Using dx12 but using dx11 doesn't fix it, makes my fps even more unstable. Specs: i5 9600k (not OC) GTX 1070 16GB RAM mellusive·2y What are your graphics settings set to? Traditionally when you put graphic settings below high it will start stressing your cpu more than your gpu. I had this exact issue with anthem and moving my settings from low/medium to high actually dropped my cpu usage. 7Reply Marshmallow2839·2y I had the same problem with Escape from Tarkov. When I jacked my graphics high, I got much better frames and the game ran more smoothly. Totally ass backwards. 3Reply1 more reply Rage-Cage69·2y I play the fuck out of EFT, its strange that this AAA is less optimized so much so that i cant play with out 100% cpu regardless of settings/frame cap. Fishh_·2y Set FPS cap, make it 60, lower as needed. 4Reply craddockj·2y This is exactly what fixed it for me. I was on the lowest settings possible and still hitting 100% on my CPU. Capped the FPS and i was able to change all the settings to ultra and i haven't had a problem since.3Reply w0zza·2y Yeah that fixed it for me and my i4690k too, also disabling g-sync reduced stutters Marshmallow2839·2y I have the same problem as you unfortunately and haven't found a fix. The game runs fine, but I can't run anything with it (i.e. discord, a stream, etc). 2Reply craddockj·2y As someone said in another comment, try setting the FPS Cap to 60. That fixed it for me. 2Reply AberonTheFallen·2y Turn up your graphics settings -- seems counter intuitive a bit, but it works. Sorta. My GPU is running at 80-90%, but CPU is still pegged at 100%. I've messed with *every* setting, individually and grouped changes and such, no benefit. Game runs fine, just... nothing else :P1Reply Sphyrwa·2y This kind of worked for me. Occasional stutter here or there but yeah, I like playing in windowed mode. Counterintuitive as hell.1Reply stenzycake·2y Which ones do you recommend turning up to high? I dont know which ones relies on cpu vs gpu. I have an i5-7400 and 1060 so I know I should be able to handle the game I just cant find that perfect combination of settings to take pressure off cpu. AberonTheFallen·2y Honestly, I just did the high and ultra presets, then turned down/off things like fog texture, the filtering setting that starts with anti that I can never spell, that kinda stuff. stenzycake·2y Anti aliasing? I couldnt find that in this game. AberonTheFallen·2y No,,, antiscopic filtering or something like that stenzycake·2y Oh ok so thats a cpu related function? AberonTheFallen·2y It does add stress to the CPU, yes. stenzycake·2y Thanks KbalzGaming·2y I found a registry fix somewhere in the reddit that lowers CPU priority. The cpu is still at 100% but at least other processes are given a chance to run like obs and discord1Reply Mystiax·2y Have the same problem. Switching to DX11 makes the GPU % go up . CPU issue is being looked into by Massive. FaustKnight·2y Your settings are too low to take advantage of your GPU so your CPU is bottlenecking your performance. Bump up your res and or settings a bit so the GPU is needed, or set an FPS cap. Hitmanv8·2y I was having similar issues, almost exact same specs as you. What worked for me was what another user posted a week or so ago. From the character select screen, run your benchmark. After seeing my initial numbers I capped my frame rate and slowly turned them down/up until I received a CPU/GPU combination that I liked. Now my CPU usage is into normalized levels while constantly getting 80-90+ FPS antoniofarios·2y Hey, im experiencing huge graphical, audio and sometimes invisibles enemies. Is this related? It was super fine in the beta but now its completely unstable to play. mikeyeli·2y I'm running into the same issue, and cant find any actual solutions. I have the same gpu a 1070, but my CPU is an i5 6600k running at 4.2ghz. I run the game in Ultra with all the bells & whistles with my frames capped at 60. Wallpaper engine shows more gpu usage than The Divison 2 process, and my CPU is at a relatively high usage percentage. Changing it to DX11 seems to make the GPU work more, but I'm still stuck wit a 100% cpu usage, and it's worse because I get input lag and stutters, game becomes pretty much unplayable. Now the game itself in DX12 with my CPU at 100% runs flawless in ultra to be honest, it's just baffling to me that it's not using my gpu almost at all. Modmachine29·2y search CPU in the sub search bar. First post there might be some helpful info in there for you/work arounds. unclenatron·2y I have a 60hz monitor, so take it for what it's worth, but I turned off vsync in the game and limited my frames to 60fps. Before running benchmark, I had almost 90% cpu usage (average, it hit 100% several times), but after limiting my frames to 60, my cpu usage (same settings otherwise) dropped to 68% average. IAM_14U2NV·2y I had the same issue and when I asked the Googles, it said I should unlock all my cores and gave me a link. Basically what I did was click the start button, typed "run", then msconfig. In there I think I went to Boot tab, advanced options, and in the top left it is a greyed out 1, when I hit the checkbox, I was able to click the 1 to open a dropdown and select 4 (i5 9600k OC'd with 4 cores), then restarted the PC. Ever since then, I haven't had any issues with CPU usage in the game. However, it takes like 2-3 minutes to boot now, which seems to be the only side effect. Google something like "unlock CPU cores using windows 10" and it's a little video on what I typed above. I am not a PC expert by any means so use at your own risk, just relaying what I did that worked. tokesone9·2y My cpu is usually at 50-60% with spikes into the 70-80 for a sec or two. Check ur background services. iLL_Motives·2y Cortana. Nothing else needs to be said. [deleted]·2y [deleted] iLL_Motives·2y No I'm just messing lol. Cortana is a pain in the ass. It's Microsofts assistant. But there was an issue with windows 10 PC's that Cortana was using 100% of the disk. Between Cortana and superfetch.exe. I had to fix my gfs laptop multiple times because of Cortana. [deleted]·2y The cpu usage in bf5 ist also at 100% load. Simply 6 cores for gaming are outdated. Zarkas·2y This is completly false information Im running a 9600k on stock clocks with a MSI 1080 ti at 3440x1440 with 60 FPS locked without any stutter. CPU usage between 30% to 80% based on the activity in-game and GPU is always around 80-90%. Settings are all maxed out except volumetric fog medium, local reflection high and ambiant occlusion high. I could push the GPU harder or overclock the CPU but i don't see the need to. It would not upgrade visual quality, the frametime is already perfect and i can keep my system running cooler without excessive fan noise. A fast 6 cores like the 9600k is PLENTY [deleted]·2y 6 cores are not plenty. Here are the proofs: https://youtu.be/ZeUumjSe6ck https://youtu.be/YkAEXf3RAAs As you can see its almost hitting 80 - 100% cpu load. Bf5 and the Division are the proof that Games are programmed for 8 cores These days since ps4 and Xbox one came out. FaustKnight·2y I seriously wish people who know nothing about computers would stop answering threads like this. [deleted]·2y I know about computers. Todays Industry is built around 8 cores cpu, since Most of the Programms and Games can proper Use the cores for specific tasks. Look at ps4 and Xbox one, both console have 8 cores chips, Heck look to the Smartphone market.of course they have lower IPC rate and overall single cores perfomance than traditional amd ryzen or intel cpus, what i wan't to say is that more Developers are gona optimize it for 8 cores. i know more than enough about computers. FaustKnight·2y So you cite multiple platforms that aren't on par with even budget desktops, don't mention threading, and are ignoring things like architecture and like you said, why not completely ignore single core performance? Let's compare smartphones to gaming PCs! You do understand that PS4/Xbox are extremely low end hardware comparatively right? There's a reason their FPS is capped so low. An i5 build with a 1050ti will outperform the PS4 Pro by a lot lol. I should probably throw my archaic 8700k in the trash since it only has 6 cores. It's a whole year old, time to move on. Nevermind the 100+ FPS I get at 1440p with 40-50% usage. FYI, doesn't matter what CPU you run, if the game is CPU bound it's going to max it out if it's allowed to. Snowdrop is designed to make full use of both the CPU and GPU, which is a good thing but not perfectly implemented. A lot of these posts about 100% CPU usage are people who have their graphics set so low, the GPU is not being utilized. That's a fault with the engine itself and with DX11. Switching to DX12 helps a lot, but some people are having issues with stability when they do. This is why setting an FPS cap is recommended for those users experiencing the issue. That prevents the CPU from trying to generate higher and higher FPS due to the GPU not being utilized. [deleted]·2y Overclocking your cpu might help. FaustKnight·2y By your logic, how? That doesn't add cores. 2 more replies Video liên quan |
