I just opened the game right out of the packaging and there is no game to be found. I'm truly upset. My heart was set on playing it this morning.

This game doesnt really boast much for single players. The story is good enough to take up an afternoon but this game really shines after all the characters are unlocked and you can have tournaments with other people. The rock-paper-scissors aspect of the game really helps with easing newcomers into the mechanics by presenting plenty of attack options without being overwhelming, making it easier to explain on the fly. It also makes any fight winnable regardless of the matchup leading to nail biting matches.
Held tons of matches with friends and random people passing by the TV room and all of them were enjoyable.

I really like playing this game! However the character list is smaller than Dragon Ball Raging Blast and even smaller than Dragon Ball Raging Blast 2. What I like about the game, you can create your own hero type character, alter their outfits, hair types, voice types, and change colors also. In addition to the game their is less interactive far as not punching the buttons for some of the phsyical super attacks, you get more interactive when the is a giant boss battle. I've noticed if you changed the difficult setting say on easy, it makes it harder to beat the giant boss battles (it is very wierd. It should have been more easier to beat the giant boss battle but it isn't when you change the difficult setting). Next the three things that it is missing for hero character edit. # 1: change the eye color of the character. # 2: Change the gender to male or female. And # 3: Change the race of the hero. This game maybe better than the first two Raging Blast games, but it lacks the completely incinerating the person or computer that you are versing with some of the Ultimate Attack and some Super Attack. Overall in my opinion, Great game but for as characters is concerned it does not beat Dragon Ball Z Budokai Tenkaichi 3. For as the graphics is concerned, its a lot better.

I follow Dragon Ball games since 1990 (SNES) and this game is awesome, why?
Let me tell ya:

Pros:
* Less repetitive than Tenkaichi and Raging Blast
I have played Raging Blast 2 and i can tell that Raging blast is kinda boring because it have a limited number of combos
and super attacks animations. Compared to this game, this game have lots of animations.
* Best animations ever!
* As you know, Raging Blast 2 have a broken system, because characters are unbalanced.
In this game you can play as any character you like, without worrying about the character strength (too weak or too strong)
* Easy to play
* Fun
* You don't have to be a combo expert to enjoy this Dragon Ball Game

Cons:
* You don't have full control of the character, this game plays almost as Budokai 3
So you depend on (50% skill, 50% luck). If you want a Dragon Ball game exactly like raging blast 2 then this game is not for you.

Conclusion:
I like Raging Blast 2, and i am a combo expert.
But seriously if i want something like the animated series i will recommend this game (Ultimate Tenkaichi) 100%

Being a huge fan of DBZ I was excited to get to see what one of the latest installments had to offer. Particularly I was exceptionally excited to learn that this particular game boasted a character creation mode but my excitement stopped once I actually started playing the game. Don't get me wrong, the graphics are probably the most gorgeous I have seen out of any DBZ fighting game I have played thus far and the soundtrack definitely feels like it was ripped right from the show but sinking your teeth in to the actual mechanics is a bit of a different story.
The main problem is that while it does require the player to actually play it feels like you have very little control over what you do. This game feels very quick time event heavy and that's something I feel like really hurts it. It's not necessarily the worst mechanic but it's terribly boring and easy...there is no real skill involved just move close mash buttons, move back, mash buttons, use your right analog stick every now and then to try a special move. Done. The game automatically puts you in to two ranges depending on how close you are to the enemy. If you are close you are in melee range if you are not you are in blast range and changing it requires a quick time event with a cutscene attached. It's not the worst idea it's just tedious in execution. Compare this to something like Budokai Tenkaichi 2 for the Wii and there is a world of difference in just how much control you have over your character. Keeping a character at range is as easy as flying away from them, no quick time events required. In BT2 every single action is controlled by the player with little difficulty, making fights smoother and more enjoyable. Ultimate Tenkaichi just takes what feels like the easiest laziest way out and puts very little thought or depth in to it's mechanics.
IF your a fan of the DBZ series and aren't looking for something too intensive in a fight system Ultimate Tenkaichi is the game for you. If you are looking for something beyond simply mashing buttons and quick time events then try Budokai Tenkaichi 2 on the Wii.

Let's not kid ourselves. This game is largely based on luck and no real skill required. Funny thing is I had more fun playing this game and Battle of Z over Budokai 3 to be honest. This game does have downside, like lots of loading times, repetitive combat. Good news is it doesn't take away from the fun! Cut scenes are almost exactly like the tv show (Comic) which I really enjoyed! Picking 5 characters vs 5 against your friends (Offline) is really fun!
Another game I'd recommend is DBZ Battle of Z:
Battle of Z is great as well, although you cant play with your friends offline which is my only complaint. Took me a good 30min to get use to the controls and pick my own strategy in each battle. My approach is different every time and I get rewarded with cards that can be attached to characters to make them stronger, faster, special abilities etc.

Pick those 2 up, you will not be disappointed!

2.0 out of 5 stars Game sucks

I played Dragon Ball Z: Shin Budokai 2 on my PSP, and I was expecting something like that I guess. Fighting style is the worst, not much to do, always the same, and I got bored really fast. The story is ok, I liked the fact that the game shows some of the series shorts mixed with the game, that was cool. The story is long, I like that, u get lots of chars. But besides from that, game is not challenging and boring.

3.0 out of 5 stars DBZ all over again.

Definitely not as good as it's predecessors. Still a fun game, but I was not excited playing it - not like the older versions. I did like the fact that you could make your own character but there wasn't much freedom. The controls aren't nearly as polished (from what I remember) from the last 2 Tenkaichi games either.

The best part I liked about it is the ability to change to Japanese language with subtitles. Multiplayer player is fun. And a lot realistic, anime like graphics make it a treat for DB fans.

How many characters does Budokai Tenkaichi 2 have?

There are 129 playable characters in most versions of the game and 135 in the Japanese and PAL Wii versions.

Why is DBZ Budokai Tenkaichi 3 so good?

Furthermore, the 3d arena-style gameplay that the Tenkaichi games introduced (which was polished in Tenkaichi 3) helps to give battles that open feeling seen in the shows. While they might not look as good as they used to, Tenkaichi 3's fights feel more like Dragon Ball than any other game.
